For World AIDS Day, we hosted an event called “Link On” to draw attention to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, and to raise money for our project in Uganda. We made the front page of Columbia’s paper! You can read about it here.
In addition, we co-sponsored an event hosted by Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr, Director of the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. The panel focused on the domestic HIV epidemic. It really caused our members to reflect on the domestic vs. global health movements and their implications, especially with respect to student engagement.
Overall, it has been a great week of activism here on campus. Now, we (as well as the public in general) have to sustain the energy, hope, and enthusiasm of this week. HIV/AIDS will be on our minds far beyond this one blustery day in December.
