On Saturday, September 22, GlobeMed ventured into Central Park for our fall retreat! We started off doing a spider hunt by the water in teams with our GlobeBuddies, and then played a round of GlobeMed Bingo so we could get to know each other better. Our ghU coordinators Conner and Nicole told us about the history of the GlobeMed movement while we all ate lunch on the grass, then shared how Pamela Angwech, the director of GWED-G, got involved in the rights-based development movement in Uganda. At our weekly meeting the next day, we indulged in one of our greatest community building traditions: pie eating. Members powered through relay races where they had to dig for chocolate covered almonds using only their mouths to snag pie ingredients to combine into sometimes delicious, sometimes terrifying concoctions. This year’s winning pie was actually pretty tasty, so we were all happy to grab a piece with our hands and nom during ghU.
